Castle of San Marcos, El Puerto de Santa Maria, Cadiz

This well-preserved 12th-century fortress is privately owned and you have to book a time to be guided around. They have a slot for English-speaking visitors, so we booked and it turned out that we were the only people on our tour, which was very good. The guide was excellent, even though she was a Spanish girl she spoke perfect English. She showed us around and explained everything to us then left us to explore for ourselves when we managed to go up a tower that we should not have been up as some of the steps were crumbling. When we met up with her again we went into the Bodega and sampled some of their sherry, which was very nice. All in all, it was well worth the visit for the price. See more here.
